Product Overview

What Is Hydrated Lime Powder Ca(OH)₂?

Hydrated Lime Powder, chemically known as Calcium Hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂) — also called slaked lime or portlandite — is produced by reacting quicklime (CaO) with a precisely controlled quantity of water in a process called slaking: CaO + H₂O → Ca(OH)₂. The result is a stable, white, finely divided powder that is highly alkaline (pH ~12.4), safer to handle than quicklime, and immediately ready for use without any further processing.

Unlike quicklime, hydrated lime does not generate dangerous heat on contact with water, making it the preferred choice for on-site operators in water treatment plants, construction sites, and agricultural settings where controlled, safe dosing is critical. CHEMICALLANE manufactures Hydrated Lime from high-purity quicklime feedstock under ISO 9001:2015 certified slaking and milling controls — available in Industrial, Agricultural, and Food Grade variants.

Every batch is in-house tested for Ca(OH)₂ content, free moisture, MgO, fineness, and pH before dispatch. Certificate of Analysis and full MSDS are provided with every consignment as standard.

Chemical Formula: Ca(OH)₂ · Mol. Wt: 74.09 g/mol · Purity: 90–95% · pH: ~12.4

Application Rate Guide

Typical Hydrated Lime Dosage by Application

Hydrated lime dosage is highly application-specific and depends on inlet water chemistry, soil conditions, or process parameters. These are industry-standard reference ranges — always confirm with jar testing, titration, or site-specific trials before full-scale deployment.

Our process engineers provide free lime dosage calculations for ETP plants, soil projects, and flue gas systems. Just share your inlet conditions and we'll estimate the optimal dose.

Get Free Dosage Calculation
Water Treatment — pH Correction (pH 6 → 8.5)
60–250 mg/L
Slightly higher dose than CaO due to lower CaO-equivalent content — jar test required for optimum dose.
ETP — Heavy Metal Precipitation (pH 9–11)
250–700 mg/L
Targets pH 9.5–11.5 for Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, Ni precipitation. Dose to be confirmed by metal speciation analysis.
Agriculture — Acidic Soil pH Correction
0.6–3.5 tonne / hectare
Based on soil buffer capacity and target pH. Apply 4–6 weeks before planting; incorporate 15–20 cm deep.
Soil Stabilization — Road Sub-base
3–8% by dry soil weight
Higher plasticity index (PI) soils require higher dosage. UCS testing at 7 and 28 days recommended.
Lime Mortar (Construction)
1 part lime : 2–3 parts sand
Standard lime mortar mix for brickwork and rendering. Add water to achieve workable plasticity. Curing 7+ days minimum.
Flue Gas Scrubbing (Dry Injection)

Hydrated Lime (Calcium Hydroxide, Ca(OH)₂) is produced by reacting quicklime with a controlled amount of water. It is a stable, finely divided white powder used in water and wastewater treatment for pH adjustment, softening, and heavy metal removal; in construction for lime mortar and plaster; in agriculture for soil pH correction; in food processing (food grade) for nixtamalization and sugar refining; in flue gas scrubbing; and as a general-purpose alkali in chemical manufacturing.

We supply three grades: (1) Industrial Grade — Ca(OH)₂ ≥ 90%, suitable for ETP/STP, construction, soil stabilization, chemical processing, and flue gas scrubbing. (2) Agricultural Grade — Ca(OH)₂ ≥ 90% with low heavy metal content certified safe for direct soil and aquaculture applications. (3) Food Grade (IS:1288 compliant) — Ca(OH)₂ ≥ 93%, tested and certified for nixtamalization, sugar refining, drinking water treatment, and FSSAI-regulated food processing applications. Specify your grade when inquiring.

Quicklime (CaO) is the anhydrous calcium oxide produced directly from limestone calcination. It is highly reactive with water — generating intense heat (65.2 kJ/mol) during slaking — making it hazardous to handle without proper equipment. Hydrated lime (Ca(OH)₂) is produced by slaking quicklime in controlled conditions. It is a stable, pre-hydrated powder that is safer to handle on-site, ready to use without further processing, and preferred for food-grade, agricultural, and general industrial use. Quicklime is more economical per unit of alkalinity for large-scale operations with proper slaking equipment.

Our Industrial and Agricultural grades contain Ca(OH)₂ ≥ 90% with free moisture ≤ 1.0%, MgO ≤ 2.5%, and SiO₂ ≤ 2.0%. Our Food Grade meets IS:1288 with Ca(OH)₂ ≥ 93%, and is tested for heavy metals (Pb, As, Cd, Hg) to confirm food safety compliance. Every batch includes a Certificate of Analysis with actual values — not just specification limits.

Hydrated lime should be stored in sealed, moisture-proof bags in a dry, covered warehouse away from rain and humidity. In the presence of atmospheric CO₂ and moisture, Ca(OH)₂ slowly carbonates back to CaCO₃ — reducing active lime content. Our HDPE bags with inner PE liners prevent this for up to 12 months when stored correctly. Opened bags must be resealed immediately. Store off the ground on pallets, avoid stacking more than 10 bags high, and maintain storage temperature below 40°C.

Yes. Our Food Grade Hydrated Lime is manufactured and tested in compliance with IS:1288 (Indian Standard for Calcium Hydroxide for food use) and meets FSSAI requirements for food-contact applications. Each batch is analyzed for purity (Ca(OH)₂ ≥ 93%), heavy metal limits (Pb, As, Cd, Hg), and microbiological parameters as required. A complete Certificate of Analysis is provided with every food-grade shipment for your compliance records.
